Site Ready Plant Operator Courses

What do we mean by site ready courses?

Our site ready courses are designed to replicate activities machine operators are expected to undertake in a worksite environment.

So, whether you are a new entrant or an existing machine operator looking to continue and enhance your professional development, site ready courses are suitable for you.

DOTTS specialise in heavy plant operational training centred around simulating a real life environment.

We specialise in many different aspects of Dozer, Excavator, Dumptruck and Safe Lifting Operations, as well more common items such as Dumpers and Rollers.

The DOTTS Guarantee

We guarantee to never flood our courses and focus specifically on the right combination of learners per machine/trainer to ensure you get the seat time and attention you need. We also guarantee your learning experience to be as ‘real as it gets’ and enjoyable.

CPCS Training

The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) is a card based scheme to prove the skill and competency of plant operators across the UK. As the largest and most significantly recognised card scheme for the plant industry, it helps to prove the holder’s operating skills as well as his or her health and safety awareness.

Further Training

We also offer Further Intermediate & Advanced training for individuals who are new to the industry and want to take it that step further. These courses are suited to those who want to learn the more detailed and intricate aspects, in a non-test environment, whereby the experience is less stressful, giving you the time to tweak your skills and gain further essential experience. DOTTS have a good reputation within the industry and good relationships with some of the major hire companies in the UK, giving you a better chance at seeking employment.

This can be on a 1-2-1 basis or as a small group booking. Some courses can also be offered as a package deal.

The CPCS training scheme predominantly consists of two elements, the theoretical and the practical assessment:

CPCS Theory Test
The CPCS Theory test covers health and safety, maintenance and operation knowledge about the machine. You will have to pass the theory test before you can move on to the practical test. The test consists of a verbal recording, with a maximum time allowance of 30 minutes and 40 questions. The mark required to pass will vary depending on the test or category.

*Please note: 1 hour will be allocated for those candidates requiring an interpreter for the test*

CPCS Practical Test
The CPCS Practical Test involves maintenance checks and various tasks to be performed as set out by CPCS. Some categories can be tested off-centre as it stands at the minute, however not all. When you have completed both the theory and practical tests you will get the CPCS (Red) Trained Operator Card. The time allowed for the practical assessment is also dependant on the type of machine plant you are being assessed on. The CPCS Practical Test can be carried out at our registered CPCS Training Centres or Off Centre.

*Please note: only certain types of machines are deemed as “Off Centre”*

All CPCS Training is currently delivered from Training Centres located in either East or West Midlands.

However this is due to change shortly with the standards where all training can be undertaken on-site, as long as it falls in line with the scheme rules.

The levels of training we offer are:

Beginner (Rookie/Tiro) 5-10 days
Intermediate (Champion) 3-5 days
Expert/Refresher (Gladiator) 1-2 days

Note: Instructors will recommended a duration dependent on your current skill level and experience at initial consultation.

To qualify for the CPCS scheme, candidates must hold a CITB Health & Safety Certification Touch Screen Test that is dated within 2 years.

DOTTS will work with you throughout your training to judge your experience and level of expertise in your chosen category.  We can usually assess during our initial consultation the level you require, however we will continue to monitor your progress throughout the training sessions and provide you with regular feedback.
